Edwin Mushoriwa

Edwin Mushoriwa is a Zimbabwean politician and Member of Parliament for Dzivarasekwa since 2018.[1][2] He is a member of the Movement for Democratic Change party and was the Vice President of the MDC led by Welshman Ncube.[3]

In 2008, Mushoriwa became spokesman for the breakaway MDC faction led by Arthur Mutambara which signed September 15 power sharing agreement with President Robert Muganbe brokered by Thabo Mbeki.[4]

Political career

Mushoriwa was elected to the parliament in 2018 on the platform of Movement for Democratic Change. In February 2020, Mushoriwa in a debate in the parliament called for the removal of a section in Marriages Bills which put the age of consent (for sex) at 16 but put legal marriage age at 18.  Mushoriwa  argued that the bill if enacted  would make it lawful to impregnate a 16-year-old but makes it  illegal to marry them until they attain the marriage age of 18 years saying this would encourage men to sexually abuse young ladies (within the age of 16) and abandon them with a legal backing that they could only have sex but cannot be married until 18 years of age.[5]
