Emetophilia

Emetophilia is the sexual arousal from vomiting, or watching others vomit.[1] It is sometimes referred to as a vomit fetish, and the fetish is considered a paraphilia. Some emetophiles practice the fetish by having their partner vomit from performing deep-throat oral sex. An object or body part (including fingers, a hand, a foot, or a penis) pushed deep into a sex partner's throat can trigger their gag reflex and eventually make them vomit. This is becoming an increasingly popular trend in internet pornography for its shock effect and as a form of erotic humiliation or degradation. It is also possible that the apparent increase in the availability of this content is connected to the growing capacity of "niche" interests to flourish in a highly tailored internet marketplace. Considering that "deep throat" pornography has been a well-known, and even popular, pornographic genre for decades, and that emesis is a (sometimes) unintended consequence of such acts, it may be reasonable to assume that emesis may have been occurring in pornography for a long time, and was simply excluded from the release version, and is now only appearing to grow in popularity as pornographers discover they can provide such content selectively to those who wish to view it.

Some emetophiles prefer to vomit themselves, especially on a partner. Or alternatively, get vomited on directly by their partner. This practice is sometimes called a "Roman shower", after the commonly supposed belief in the frequent induction of vomiting at Roman feasts. Emetophiles may also have any combination of these desires simultaneously.

Wanting to be vomited on may be related to a desire to be dominated, while wanting to make someone else vomit may stem from a desire to dominate the partner – see erotic humiliation.

Some emetophiles find the act of vomiting arousing. For them, the sequence of "spasm, ejaculation, relief" in vomiting is erotically charged. Other emetophiles can be aroused by seeing, hearing, and smelling others vomit.

This is not to be confused, although can in many ways be connected with a similar behavioral performance, bulimia nervosa. There are a number of critical distinctions however, both in practice and in clinical consideration. More recent diagnostic practices regarding paraphilias require that the paraphilia either cause distress to the individual, or entail grievous bodily or emotional harm to the self or to others. Emetophiles and persons suffering from bulimia nervosa differ in two critical areas: those with bulimia nervosa experience a compulsive desire to induce vomiting (emesis), that cannot be readily suppressed by considering the potential negative health effects of doing so. To an emetophile however, emesis can serve as a form of sexual release, and these persons may not feel a particular compulsion, desire, or even willingness to engage in such activities outside of an explicitly sexual context.
