Emmanuel Church of England Middle School

Emmanuel CofE Middle School is a 9-13 Middle-deemed-Secondary school situated in the small town of Verwood, East Dorset, England. It is the only school for secondary-aged pupils in Verwood.

Most pupils come from the three Verwood First schools - Verwood CofE First School, Hillside Community First School and Trinity CofE First School. On leaving Emmanuel, pupils transfer in almost equal numbers to Ferndown Upper School and Queen Elizabeth's School, Wimborne Minster.

History

Emmanuel Middle School, which opened in 1988, has Church of England Voluntary Aided School status, with both St Michael and All Angels Church, Verwood and the Diocese of Salisbury contributing to the cost of the building. Due to the rapid expansion of Verwood, the school was extended in 1993, and again in 2005 and 2008, to give a capacity of 600 pupils.

Former headteacher, Jill Watson left in August, 2017; Rob Christopher is now the headteacher and works alongside deputy headteacher, Alister Barker.

Emmanuel Middle School is one of the less than 400 remaining middle schools in England.

Previously a voluntary aided school administered by Dorset County Council, in January 2018 Emmanuel Church of England Middle School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Wimborne Academy Trust.
