Fernhill, Queenstown

Fernhill is a suburb of Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand. It is on the lower slopes of the Ben Lomond mountain and is accessed via Fernhill Road which starts at the One Mile roundabout.

The statistical area of Sunshine Bay, which includes Fernhill, had a population of 2,358 at the 2013 New Zealand census, an increase of 105 people since the 2006 census. There were 1,221 males and 1,137 females.[1] 79.7% were European/Pākehā, 8.4% were Māori, 1.5% were Pacific peoples and 12.2% were Asian.[2]

Tracks

There are a number of walking/biking tracks that can be accessed from around the Fernhill area:

  • The Department of Conservation Arawata Terrace Track takes you from Arawata Terrace to the Queenstown-Glenorchy Road.
  • The Fernhill Town Link Track which connects Cameron Place in Fernhill with Thompson Street near Queenstown.[3]
  • The Fernhill Loop Track in the Ben Lomond Reserve.
  • A small track that connects the One Mile Powerhouse carpark area runs near Fernhill Road and ends near the Heritage Hotel.
