History

Gables was gazetted on 17 July 2020.[1][2] The suburb is named after Red Gables Road that cuts through the middle of the suburb.

A large portion of Gables was previously part of the suburb of Box Hill and a smaller portion in the north was part of the suburb of Maraylya. The new suburb contains the Box Hill North release area which is distinct from the Box Hill release area within Box Hill.

The development is the biggest master planned community in The Hills District. This new residential community will comprise over 4,000 dwellings, a proposed large 4-hectare lake central to the development, a 5.5-hectare town centre, active and passive open spaces, a primary school, new roads and associated infrastructure.

Education

Santa Sophia Catholic College, Gables is on track to open on its permanent site in Term 1, 2021. The pre-school to post-school College will be located in ‘The Gables’, a new community being developed in Gables.

The proposed site will be within the future town centre, on Fontana Parade near the corner of Red Gables Road. Locating the school within the heart of the town precinct will provide easy access for families.
