Gaoyi Township

Gaoyi Township (simplified Chinese: 高椅乡; traditional Chinese: 高椅鄉; pinyin: Gāoyĭ Xiāng is a rural township in Huitong County, Hunan, China. It is surrounded by Ruoshui Town on the northwest, Tuanhe Town on the southwest, Jinziyan Township on the south, Matang Township on the southeast, and Longchuantang Township on the northeast. As of the 2016 census it had a population of 8,865 and an area of 99 square kilometres (38 sq mi).

As of 2016, it has 17 villages: Sanzhou Village (三洲村), Tangzhou Village (唐洲村), Wangtang Village (网塘村), Shuangtan Village (双滩村), Lingtou Village (岭头村), Shanggao Village (上高村), Wengjiang Village (翁江村), Shangdashi Village (上大市村), Hongguang Village (红光村), Hongpo Village (红坡村), Xuefeng Village (雪峰村), Gaolian Village (高联村), Huaijian Village (槐枧村), Wengtao Village (翁桃村), Wenggao Village (翁高村), Dengjia Village (邓家村) and Gaoyi Village (高椅村).

Economy

Gaoyi Township's economy is dominated by tourism and special local products, such as vivipara, fish, orange, peach, bacon, chili sauce, embroidery, and bamboo weaving.[1]

The Wu River flows through the township.[2]

Culture

Nuo opera is the most influence local theater.[1]

Transportation

Provincial Highway S222 runs through the township.[2]

Attractions

Gaoyi Village, also known as "Gaoyi Ancient Village", is a famous scenic spot in Hunan. The village has been designated as a "Major National Historical and Cultural Site in Hunan" by the State Council of China.[3][1]
