Georgi Petrosian

Georgi Petrosian is a politician in the Republic of Artsakh.[1] He was chosen as the Republic's first Vice President in January 1992, and took over as acting President upon the death of Artur Mkrtchian in April 1992.[2]

Petrosyan is a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), one of the driving forces of the Artsakh's independence. He served in the country's parliament and was elected as its speaker until he resigned before a peace plan between Armenia and Azerbaijan was signed.[3] He was also identified as the foreign minister as Nagorno-Karabakh struggled for independence and international recognition.[4]

In June 1993, Petrosyan resigned as president and was replaced by Garen Baburian.[5] His resignation was partly responsible for the weakened influence of the ARF as a political party in Artsakh.[6]
