History
Before the partition, the town was home to a large and notable Sikh population. A major clash took place between the Sikhs and Muslims of the neighboring villages of Mohra Malkan and Mohra Damyal after the partition, which forced the Sikhs to leave the town. Consequently, many Kashmiri families settled there.
Most of the land in Ghungrila is owned by the Raja families of Mohra Malkan and Mohra Damyal.
