Gowhar Geelani

Gowhar Geelani is a Kashmiri journalist, author, and commentator based in Bonn, Germany.[1] He begun his career in 2001, working as a reporter and sub editor with the daily Kashmir Images.[2][3][4][5] Gowhar is from Srinagar Kashmir. He has been contributor to different international and regional publications. In April 2020, Jammu and Kashmir police booked Gowhar for "Glorifying terrorism in Kashmir Valley".[6][7][8] As a Broadcast and print journalist Gowhar also appears as Kashmir expert on International Media. He is a member of South Asian journalism programme (SAJP), chevening fellow 2015, and Munich Young Leader, 2014.[9][10][11]

Gowhar started working as a foreign correspondent for Radio Deutsche Welle, voice of Germany. Gowhar is the author of the book Kashmir Rage and Reason, ISBN 978-93-5333-407-9.[12][13][14][15] He is associated with BBC, Deutsche Welle, The Telegraph (UK), Race and Class (London), The Telegraph (India), Deccan Herald, Scroll.in, The Quint, The Federal, Catch News, The Citizen etc. As a polyglot, GG besides reading Persian and Arabic he can speak English, German, Urdu, Hindi, Kashmiri, Bengali. He learned German language in IFS institute in Bonn, Germany.[16][17][18][19] He has extensively reported from Kashmir on politics, civil rights, literature and sports.[20][21][22]

Personal life

Gowhar Geelani, was born in the heart of Srinagar's downtown, to a Kashmiri Muslim family.[2][3][1]
