Gray Nelson

Gray Nelson (born Graydon Brian Nelson 08 May 1927) is a former New Zealand Public Servant and Diplomat. He spent his childhood in Taranaki then Epsom and was educated at St Peter's College where he was a foundation pupil in 1939. He began working in the Department of Lands and Surveyin 1952 and later in the New Zealand Parliament[1] and was Prime Minister's Private Secretary to five New Zealand Prime Ministers: Keith Holyoake, Jack Marshall, Norman Kirk,[1] Bill Rowling, Robert Muldoon,[2] and Michael Moore. He also held the diplomatic position of Counsellor at the New Zealand High Commission to the United Kingdom, 1978-1981.[2] He has three children, Terry, Catherine and Robert. Married Nov 1956 to the late Mary Anne Butler O’Connell.
