History

The station opened on 18 March 1891, initially named Nagaoka Station (長岡駅).[1] It was renamed Saidaiji Station (西大寺駅) on 1 January 1906, becoming Higashi-Okayama from 20 March 1961.[1]

With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR West.[1]
