History

Homebush Sugar Mill, circa 1895

The name Homebush is taken from the name of a pastoral run name used by John Walker in 1866.[2]

Homebush Post Office opened on 5 December 1883 and closed in 1976.[3]

The Homebush Sugar Mill opened in 1883 and closed in 1922.[4]

In the 2011 census, Homebush had a population of 277 people.[1]

The Mackay Regional Council operates a mobile library service on a fortnightly schedule at Homebush Road near the school.[6][7]

Education

Homebush State School opened on 24 June 1889.[8] In 2014, Homebush State School celebrated its 125th anniversary.[9] Homebush is a coeducational school, catering to years Prep through grade 6. At 2016, enrollment was 59.[10]
