I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo) is a 2020 Spanish-language drama film directed by Heidi Ewing, from a screenplay by Ewing and Alan Page Arriaga. It stars Armando Espitia, Christian Vázquez, Michelle Rodríguez, Ángeles Cruz, Arcelia Ramírez and Michelle González.

Premise
In Mexico, two gay men meet and fall in love. Intermittent flashbacks reveal their family relationships and childhoods. Each emigrates to New York, one to build a better life and the second to join his lover. They discover that the American dream happens slowly and despite the pain of separation from family in Mexico they build a new life.

Release
The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2020.[2] Shortly after, Sony Pictures Classics acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film, with Stage 6 Films distributing the film internationally.[3] The film was set to screen at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2020, but the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5][6] It screened at the New York Film Festival on October 2, 2020.[7][8] It was scheduled to be released on January 8, 2021.[9] However, it was pulled from the schedule and set for an undisclosed 2021 date.[10] It is scheduled to be released on May 21, 2021.[11]
Critical reception
I Carry You With Me holds a 96% approval rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 26 reviews, with a weighted average of 7.90/10. The website's critics' consensus reads: "A remarkable feature debut for director Heidi Ewing, I Carry You with Me finds universally resonant themes in a specific, richly detailed time and place."[12] On Metacritic, the film holds a rating of 68 out of 100, based on 6 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[13]
I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo) awards in the NEXT section at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival: the Innovator Award and the Audience Award.[14] It was also nominated for the 2021 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film (Limited Release).[15]
