Jessica Kellgren-Fozard

Jessica Kellgren-Fozard (née Kellgren-Hayes; born 1989) is an English YouTuber and television personality. She began making YouTube videos in 2011 and has since gained over 800 thousand subscribers as of January 2021.

She is openly lesbian and deaf, a topic she speaks on often. Her deafness is caused by her disabilities: hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy, Ehlers–Danlos syndrome, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.[1][2]

Early life and education

Kellgren-Fozard was born in Camden, London grew up in Bristol with her younger brother. Her mother is a dyslexic artist and print-maker and her father is an animator and director.[3] She is the granddaughter of Jonas Kellgren (1911–2002), the first professor of rheumatology in the UK at the University of Manchester. She is of Swedish, American, and Russian descent on her mother's side.[4][5]

Kellgren-Fozard is Quaker and attended Sidcot School in Winscombe.[6][7] She explained her "winding path" through her education in the video "My Exams Went Horribly Wrong...CC". She finished her secondary school education at Cotham School at the age of 19, two years behind most other students, with four A levels, three As and one B. She initially pursued a local BTEC diploma in Art and Design.[3] She then studied at the University of Brighton, graduating in five years with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Screen Studies.[8]

She was awarded an honorary PhD from the University of Worcester in 2018 after being nominated by students for her work in disability awareness.[9][10]

Career

Broadcasting

In 2008, she participated in the BBC Three reality television series Britain's Missing Top Model,[11] achieving third place.

In 2014, she on-the-scene reported for the Brighton based LatestTV.[12] In 2015, she co-hosted LatestTV's movie review series such as PostFeature and Movie Line and interviewed filmmakers on FilmFest. In 2016, she hosted her own educational entertainment television show called Quintessentially Jessica.[13][14][15]

Kellgren-Fozard's videos cover a range of topics including vintage fashion and beauty, disability issues, LGBT issues and history.[16]

In 2019, she partnered with The School of Life for the YouTube Originals series "The School of..." on the YouTube Premium service, narrated by Alain de Botton where seven popular YouTube creators cover a philosophical topic important to them.[17] Jessica's episode is about the secrets of happiness. [18]

Personal life

Kellgren-Fozard is based in Brighton. She is a lesbian. She married Claudia Fozard, an NHS dentist, at a Quaker meeting house in September 2016.[19] They announced on 1 January 2021 that they are expecting a child in June.[20]

In her video "Cheap Vintage Dresses and Petticoats Review! // Grace Karin [CC]" posted 20 July 2017, Kellgren-Fozard states she stands 5'9" (1.75 m) tall.
