King George High School

King George High School is a high school in King George County, Virginia, United States. It has been the only high school in the county since 1968, when the county's schools were integrated and Ralph Bunche High School was closed. In 2006 ground was broken on a new 215,000-square-foot (20,000 m2) high school building that opened in February 2008.

Athletics

The Men's Basketball team won the 1969-1970 state championship, the only team state championship for the school.

From the late 1990s until the early 2000s King George was dominant in track and field within the battlefield district winning 7 consecutive championships under the leadership of the legendary coach Jim Moyer.

King George High School has won six consecutive Men's district championships and 4 consecutive Women's district titles with the Men's team placing 3rd in the state of Virginia A/AA swimming and diving championships in 2005. The Women's swim team won the district title in 1997, 1998, 2005 and 2008-2011 while the Mens' team has won in 2005 and 2008-2011

The football team dominated the late 90s behind the rushing duo John and Johnathan Parker and the arm of Freddie Brooks. They eventually lost the state championship game to Graham High School in 1996.

The men's varsity baseball team had success in the late 1980s when the Smith brothers played. The team had not had another winning season until 2005 when the Joey Friedman, Battlefield district MVP led team coached by Ed McKinnon ended with a 12-10 record which included a district tournament victory over Caroline High School. The 2005 season was followed by a 9-12 season (2006) behind the arm of Donald Howell who came up a few strikeouts short of establishing a new state strikeout record. Howell finished with 145 strikeouts. Over the next few years, under a new coaching staff the team struggled. In 2010, new Head Coach, Thad Reviello. The team finished the season 12-7 falling one game short of advancing to the regional tournament.
