  • Anirban Library (Est. 1990), Mahmudhati, Paikgacha, Khulna - 9282. Government approved category "A", the library is one of the largest rural libraries in Bangladesh, with a collection of approximately 8,000 books, and 8,400 members at home and abroad. The library is a three-story building covering a 7,200 square feet area. The library has a number of programs and services outside of normal operations, including a "free Friday medical clinic" with a retired MBBS doctor, medicine handouts for the poor, a voluntary blood donation group named "Anirban Blood for Life", a free "eye camp", a program to increase farmers' awareness of modern technology, learning programs for the illiterate, a computer lab consisting of ten computers used by students and others, English courses for students, as well as classes on dance, music, and drawing. It has conducted humanitarian work during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Cyclone Amphan situation, including awareness campaigns, helping governmental authorities to implement orders and instructions, supporting vulnerable people with food, providing corrugated tin to those who lost their homes due to the cyclone, providing volunteer support to harvest paddy fields, clearing broken trees to restore electricity, helping people restore damaged homes, and helping handicapped people with food and money. The library donated 5,000kg of paddy seed to 2,500 farmers, supported by the organization Petrocem Bangladesh Ltd. The library also publishes a biyearly periodical, ANIRBAN. The library contains an auditorium with a 200 seat capacity, with built-in stage, sound system, and multimedia projector; the library offers use of the auditorium to organizations or communities for use in meetings, workshops, etc. The library provides scholarships under its educational support program.[6]
