Long Island Music Hall of Fame

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is an organization recognizing musicians who have contributed to the musical heritage of Long Island, New York. The hall of fame has a business office is in Melville, New York. It was incorporated in July 2005, under the New York State Board of Regents, as a nonprofit organization and holds a provisional charter to operate as a museum in the state of New York. Expansion plans include a museum of Long Island music history, a multimedia resource center, an educational facility and outreach program, and will also serve as a venue for musical performances.[1]

Long Island musical heritage

The Hall of Fame gives the 'Long Island Sound Award' to musical performers who have contributed to "Long Island's musical heritage",[2] and held its first inaugural induction gala on October 15, 2006 at the Patchogue Theatre in Patchogue, New York.[3]

It has been the decision of the Hall to define "Long Island" geographically, adding Kings and Queens counties in addition to the more common definition, which typically only refers to Suffolk and Nassau.

In addition to a biennial induction ceremony, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame is present across Long Island and known for its education initiatives, including annual scholarship presentation to local students,[4] annual speakers series,[5] concert series [6] and the newly announced mobile education museum.
