Lozova

Lozova (Ukrainian: Лозова́) or Lozovaya (Russian: Лозова́я) is a city in Kharkiv Oblast (province) of eastern Ukraine. Serving as the administrative center of the Lozova Raion (district), the city itself is designated as a city of oblast significance and does not belong to the raion. Population: 54,618(2020 est.)[2]

Lozova is the 2nd largest city in Kharkiv Oblast after Kharkiv in terms of population.

History

It was founded in late 1860s[3] as a settlement in Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire.[4][5]

During Russian Civil War it was occupied by German troops since April 1918 until November 1918.[3]

A local newspaper is published here since August 1929.[6]

City since October 1938.[3][5]

During World War II it was under German occupation from October 11, 1941 to September 16, 1943.[3]

After liberation, the city was completely restored. In 1953 there were four high schools, two libraries, one House of Culture and one stadium.[7]

In 1972 the population was 38.8 thousand people.[4]

In January 1989 the population was 72 991 people.[8][3]

The city was evacuated on August 27, 2008 due to a fire in an arsenal. However, there were no serious casualties or deaths.

In January 2013 the population was 58,307 people.[9]

Lozova is a main rail hub[7][4][3][5] within the Kharkiv Oblast.

The City is divided into two main parts, one is called Gorod and other one is called Raion.
