Lucille Collard

Lucille Collard is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in a by-election on February 27, 2020.[1] She represents the riding of Ottawa—Vanier as a member of the Ontario Liberal Party.

Early life

Her involvement with the Ottawa-Vanier community started 35 years ago. In 1999, she completed a law degree at the University of Ottawa and pursued a public service career as a lawyer. She then proceeded to work in areas such as international trade law with the NAFTA Secretariat, administrative and regulatory law with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and public law with the Federal Court.[2]

A mother of four, Lucille has long been very focussed on advancing education as an essential building block of success for individuals and communities. In the early 2000s, she had a leading role in the opening of a new francophone public school where all students could benefit from an integrated intellectual, emotional and physical development program. Started as a pilot project in 2003, with 18 students, the school – Trille des Bois – was officially opened in 2010. Today, Trille des Bois welcomes over 600 students and is a pillar of success.[3]

Building on this achievement, Lucille decided to run for public office and in 2010, was elected as a School Trustee for the Ottawa-Vanier, Ottawa-Rockcliffe region. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2018, and that same year was chosen by her fellow trustees to serve as Chair of the Board of the Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario.[4]

Following her victory with 52.2% of the vote, she was forced to adapt to the reality of COVID-19.

She serves as the liberal critic for the following portfolios :

  • Women's Issues
  • Solicitor General
  • Environment, Conservation and Park[5]
