Maria Brink

Brink was born on December 18, 1977,[1][2] in the state of New York, and her father left the family when she was young.[2][3] Brink's mom introduced her to bands/artists such as Black Sabbath, Patti Smith, and Rolling Stones.[3] Brink became interested in performing at the age of 5.[3]

The first band Brink was ever in was an Albany, New York-based band called Pulse, before moving to California.[4] In 2002, when she was 25, she moved to Los Angeles to find a band to work with.[2][3] Before finding a band, she worked in stores, and sang in coffee shops and bars.[2] In 2004, she met now-band member Chris Howorth at an audition.[2][3] At first, Howorth rejected Brink for being a woman.[2][3] Two weeks latter, Howorth apoligized and hired Brink as the singer.[2][3] They formed the band Dying Star with drummer Jeff Fabb.[2][3] They were later joined by guitarist Blake Bunzel and bassist Josh Newell.[3] Soon after, the band changed their name to In This Moment.[2] The band went on to release seven studio albums. Their debut, Beautiful Tragedy, was released in 2007.[5] Their follow up, titled The Dream was released the following year debuting at number 73 on the Billboard 200.[5][6] The band's third album, A Star-Crossed Wasteland was released in 2010, and their fourth album titled Blood was released in August 2012 and debuted at number 15.[5][6] Their fifth album titled Black Widow was released in November 2014 and debuted at number 8, their highest position in the charts to date.[5][6] Ritual, their sixth, was released in 2017 and debuted at number 23.[5][6] Their seventh studio album, Mother was released in 2020.[5] They have received two nominations of Alternative Press Music Awards, including two for Best Hard Rock Artist and one for Best Live Band.[7][8] They have also received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.[9] Brink has been awarded "Rock Goddess of the Year" in the third (2013) and fifth (2015) Annual Loudwire Music Awards,[10][11] "Hottest Chick in Metal" in 2010,[12] one of eleven women in heavy metal who matter by Yell! Magazine in 2012,[13] and was recognized by Revolver Magazine as one of the "25 Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock & Metal".[14]

When she was 15, she got pregnant and had her son Davion.[2][3] She had to support herself and her son; she also helped her mother to overcome her drug addiction.[2][3] Brink is a vegetarian and active with the PETA campaign.[15] She is also an aspiring artist/painter going by the alias of 'Maria Brink's Wonderland'.[16] Brink was in a relationship with DevilDriver bassist, Jonathan Miller.[3][17]
