Mednax is an American physician-led national medical group founded in 1979, headquartered in Sunrise, Florida. Mednax partners with hospitals, health systems and health care facilities to offer women’s and children’s care across more than 24 specialties.[2]

History[4]

  • 1979 – Pediatrix Medical Group was founded as a single neonatology group.[3]
  • 1991 – Pediatrix began providing pediatric cardiology and pediatric intensive care physician services.[4]
  • 1994 – Pediatrix launched its newborn hearing screen program.[4]
  • 1995 – Pediatrix completed its initial public offering.
  • 1996 – Electronic medical record system and Clinical Data Warehouse was introduced to bolster research, education and quality improvement initiatives.
  • 1998 – Pediatrix began providing maternal-fetal medicine physician services. Formalized Center for Research and Education was launched.
  • 2000 – Pediatrix University, a free online CME/CNE resource for the maternal-fetal-newborn community, was launched.
  • 2001 – Continuous quality improvement program was introduced.
  • 2009 – 100,000 Babies Campaign launched to improve the delivery of neonatal care to 100,000 babies over a three-year period.[5] Mednax was established in 2009 as the parent company of Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc.
  • 2014 – Mednax signs definitive agreement to acquire leading revenue cycle management company, MedData Inc.[6]
  • 2019 – Mednax celebrates 40 years of patient care.[4]
  • 2020 – New destinations for anesthesia and radiology solutions – North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) acquires American Anesthesiology, Mednax completes sale of Mednax Radiology Services to Radiology Partners.[7][8]

Operations

Mednax is a comprehensive medical group comprising providers of neonatal, maternal-fetal and pediatric physician subspecialty services.[3] Pediatrix Medical Group, a division of Mednax, was founded in 1979[9] and includes neonatal physicians who provide services in neonatal intensive care units, and collaborate with affiliated maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric cardiology, pediatric critical care and other physician subspecialists to provide a clinical care continuum. The Pediatrix network includes partnerships with more than 1,225 facilities in 39 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands.

Obstetrix Medical Group offers obstetric and maternal-fetal services, including maternal-fetal medicine, OB/GYN hospitalist services, obstetrics & gynecology services, and midwifery. Established in 1998, the Obstetrix network includes more than 300 partner facilities, 430+ physicians and more than 75 advanced practice providers.

Other Mednax programs include the Mednax Audiology Institute, the Mednax Simulation Program and telehealth services.[11]

The Mednax Center for Research, Education, Quality and Safety (CREQS) engages in clinical research, education, continuous quality improvement and safety initiatives. Mednax also maintains a database of research and articles published by Mednax physicians.
