The company aims to use its platform to bridge the digital divide for billions in emerging markets who cannot afford large volumes of data required for many online services.[2]

Migo was founded by Barrett Comiskey. [1] Comiskey was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2016 for inventing electronic ink and co-founding the E Ink Corporation.[3]

Slated to launch in the first quarter of 2020, Migo Indonesia will feature iflix content alongside other curated films and TV series from Indonesia and Southeast Asia.[1]

Platform

Migo is a last mile platform designed to serve digital products and services to the mass market in developing countries, bypassing traditional telecom networks. On-demand video is the first product on Migo's platform.[4]

3-day subscription passes to Migo's TV and film library are sold at neighborhood retailers, and distributed through Migo's offline network of local WiFi hotspots. Customers download content to their mobile devices at Migo's hotspots, and watch offline rather than using up mobile data to download or stream content.[4]

The company has reported 6 hours of viewing for each of its 3-day subscription passes.[4]

Migo has stated it intends to expand its platform's products and services to include other entertainment (music, games, e-books), e-commerce, and education services.[2]

Technology

Migo's last mile content distribution network uses satellite for backhaul, local "mini-cloud" servers at retail, and local WiFi transfer for end users to download content from Migo's cloud at any Migo hotspot.[4]

Geographies

Migo's Indonesia operations are run out of offices in Jakarta, with an operations center in Manila and an R&D center in Taipei, Taiwan.[2]

Ownership

Migo's investors include Singaporean sovereign wealth fund Temasek.[1]
