History
The team's nickname was chosen to reflect Wisconsin's reputation as "America's Dairyland."[4] Milkmen was among ten finalists in a "Name the Team" contest which also included: Barn Owls, Bovines, Broilers, Cheesers, Cow Tippers, Crop Dusters, Farmhands, Haymakers, and War Pigs.[5]
Due to construction delays at Routine Field, the Milkmen started their inaugural season playing their home games at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in Indiana. The Routine Field home opener was rescheduled for June 24, 2019, a month after the first home game.[3]
The Milkmen played their first game on May 16, 2019, a 5–4 road victory over the St. Paul Saints.[6] They played their first home game in Kokomo on May 24, a 4–5 loss to the Chicago Dogs.[7] Their first home game at Routine Field was a 3–2 loss in 11 innings to the Gary SouthShore RailCats.[1] The team finished 38–62 in their first season.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Milkmen played their second season as one of the six American Association teams that continued forward with the season, while the other six sat out.[8] The Milkmen finished with a 34–26 record, and won their first championship after defeating Sioux Falls in five games in the championship series.[9] Due to the American Association's unique policy to allow fans to attend baseball games that season, the Milkmen were able to play in front of a limited capacity crowd throughout the regular season and championship.[10]
