Minister of State (UK)

A Minister of State is a mid-tier Minister of the Crown in the UK government. Ministers of State are junior to the Prime Minister and Secretaries of State, but senior to a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Parliamentary Private Secretary.

The Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 puts a limit of 50 on the number of salaried Ministers of State.[1]

No Ministers of State currently are members of or attend the Cabinet, but they have done as recently as in February 2020.[2]

Ministers of State, like other Ministers of the Crown, are bound by the Ministerial Code.
