In parallel to its business activities, MyScienceWork offers a comprehensive database hosting more than 90 million scientific publications and 12 million patents in its commitment to Open Science and Open Access.[1] A global scientific community uses this platform to deposit and discover scientific publications of all disciplines.
MyScienceWork has offices in Paris and Luxembourg and with representation in Mexico and Philadelphia.
Application
MyScienceWork provides tools to accelerate research, optimize funding and avoid duplication of scientific research. In 2018 MyScienceWork launched Polaris OS[3], an advanced open source repository solution and in 2020 Sirius[4], a data science solution offering predictive analytics and competitive metrics for scholarly content was introduced. The software solutions are currently applied into the research infrastructures of higher education, medical research and national studies.
Polaris OS
Purpose
Polaris OS is a low code solution with tools to address the needs of research institutions in terms of communicating, networking, collaborating, and prioritizing research objectives. Researchers are also increasingly active in enhancing their own visibility and research impact as more universities take these measures into account in the promotion and evaluation of researchers[5]The multichannel communication platforms offered by MyScienceWork include interconnected functionalities responding to these specific needs.[5]
This tool is versatile in its use as a library management system, multimedia archive, research data repository and institutional repository. Designed using the latest technologies, it supports complex functions for users with little to no programming skills and was developed to accommodate and simplify the integration of developments. The Open Source solution Polaris OS is able to manage all types of research outputs in one platform and is available for free on GitHub.
Features
Archives Polaris OS allows institutions to archive their publications, research data, theses, videos, posters, etc., and can be linked to existing archives, like ArXiv, PubMedand HAL.
Metrics The metrics tools allow institutions to track performance and trends of their research teams and overall research production. The platform's dashboard provides an overview of publications’ impact, and the metrics can be filtered to report the number of consultations per publication by reader, country, and discipline.
Professional Profiles Researchers create profiles, similar to those of LinkedIn, within their Polaris and can build their network by adding contacts from their own institution or from the greater MyScienceWork international community. Keywords provided in the profile are used by the platform's tools to offer personal suggestions of publications and contacts to each user. Other tools designed to facilitate professional collaboration and interaction allow for the sharing of documents and annotating of publications.
Dissemination Polaris OS is dedicated to popularizing science and making it visible and accessible. Polaris OS integrates into the ecosystem of research institutes by recovering/exporting all types of data (scientific, technological, financial, managerial...) to and from existing information systems or the Internet to model, clean, structure, and enrich them.
Sirius
Purpose
Sirius is a data science service that supports all the scientific sector stakeholders (research centers, universities, publishers, innovative companies, etc.) to automate the metadata production and the classification of files, upgrade research and navigation within a data corpus, evaluate scientific production, analyze and compare its positioning. Based on powerful and upgradeable technologies, Sirius merges automatic treatment expertise of Natural Language and Machine Learning, and adapts its algorithms for each different project. Depending on the institutional needs, Sirius is highly customisable and adaptable to fit different stakeholder needs and specifications.
MyScienceWork and open access
MyScienceWork supports the circulation of open access scientific texts. Its search engine centralizes the main open access databases online,[1] like PubMed, CiteSeer, DOAJ, Research Papers in Economics, ArXiv, HAL, Abes, BioMed Central, CERN, Persee, Revues.org, TEL, ORBI, and Public Library of Science.
In 2012 and 2013, MyScienceWork was the national coordinator of International Open Access Week in France.[2][3]
OmniScience blog for science content
Since 2010, MyScienceWork has been a popular science media outlet dedicated to news about multidisciplinary professional research.[4] In January 2016, the company launched OmniScience, a new format of its science news site. It features scientific news articles, video abstracts, researcher portraits, and opinion pieces, which are divided into three sections: “Revolution”, exploring emerging practices in science and their impact; “Exploration”, highlighting the diverse professional experiences of researchers; and “Knowledge”, reporting on the latest scientific discoveries. In OmniScience, readers also find collections covering open access, women in science, earning a doctorate, and science 2.0. MyScienceWork also produced a weekly video web series called Knock Knock Doc, highlighting PhD students and their research.
