Notable Changes from Nokia 7.1

Cameras

The 7.2 has 3 rear cameras instead of 2 due to the additional of 0.6x zoom ultrawide camera. The main rear sensor has changed and can now take up to 48 Megapixel, surpassing the Nokia 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 as the highest megapixel Nokia-branded camera, though shoots at 12 MP by default.[4]

The phone also now has a dedicated night mode, which "helps improve low-light photography."[5]

Design/Exterior

The 7.2 has a larger screen, 99.1cm² (6.3") instead of 85.1² (5.84"), and due to that has a bigger body. The display has a smaller chin and bezels, along with a thinner dewdrop notch at the top.[6][7] Another addition on the Nokia 7.2 is Nokia face iD, which is made by Truly Secure.[8] The 7.2 is heavier, 180g compared to 160g.[6]

The phone now comes with a "Multilayer coating for a smooth metallic finish" and a "light-diffusing satin glass back".

Another change on the exterior of the phone is the addition of a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left of the phone which can be pressed to quickly activate the Google Assistant or held and released for the Google Assistant to start and stop listening. It can also be re-mapped in settings to open an app of your choice.[9][10]

Internals

The 7.2 has a more powerful SoC, the Snapdragon 660 rather than 636.[11] The 7.2 comes with a 3500 mAh battery, while the 7.1 has 3060 mAh. However the 7.2 doesn't support fast charging, meaning the phone charges at 10 Watts instead of 18.[12][11][13][14] Expandable storage has increased from 400 to 512 GB.

Differences between Nokia 7.2 and 6.2

Although the Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 are very similar phones and almost identical in appearance,[15] there are a few differences between them:

Cameras

The biggest difference is in the cameras. The main rear camera and front camera are both a higher megapixel count on the 7.2 (48 MP to 16 MP, and 20 MP to 8 MP, respectively).[15][16] Unlike the 6.2, the camera app on the 7.2 has Zeiss branded effects that aim to replicate the effects you get from Zeiss lenses. Finally the Nokia 7.2 claims to take better low-light photos.[16] A combination of all these factors mean the cameras on the Nokia 7.2 are better.[16]

Internals

The other major difference between them are the internals. The 7.2 comes with the more powerful Snapdragon 660 (rather than 636) and comes with 4-6 GB RAM instead of 3-4 GB. The storage also starts at 64 GB rather than 32.

Design/Exterior

The Nokia 7.2 comes in Charcoal, Cyan Green and Ice while the Nokia 6.2 comes in Ceramic Black and Ice.

Models

The global version of the phone comes in 3 models: 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage, 6 GB RAM with 64 GB storage, and 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage.[17] The Chilean version of the Nokia 7.2 (TA-1178) comes with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.[18]

It comes in 3 different colours, Charcoal, Cyan Green and Ice.[9]

Reception

Reviews for the Nokia 7.2 are mostly positive.

The Verge said the Nokia 7.2 is "competent and almost as good as the [Google] Pixel 3A", they say it's Nokia's "most confident creation yet" and gave it a 7/10 score.[10]

Digital Trends said "The Nokia 7.2 is a beautiful package, from smooth curves and a matte glass texture that prevents fingerprints to a sharp and modern screen", however the also say the phone "aims high but misses the mark", giving it a 6/10 score.[19]

GSMarena said the "colours looked nice and outdoor visibility was okay" and said "The Nokia 7.2 is powered by the Snapdragon 660, which is a bit dated, but still offers pretty great performance in both CPU and GPU intense tasks." They also commented on the charging, saying "We're not too thrilled about the 5V/2A charging capabilities - it'll take a while to fill those 3,500mAh batteries."[20]
