Oblisco Capitale

The Oblisco Capitale is set to be a skyscraper in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt proposed in 2018 as a part of Egypt's 2030 Vision. When inaugurated, the building aims to be the tallest building in Egypt and the entire world at a height of 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) surpassing the current tallest building in Egypt and Africa, the Iconic Tower, and the current tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa.[1][2]

Located in the heart of Egypt's New Capital at the Central Business District, designed in the form of a pharaonic obelisk surrounded by a water channel resembling the Nile River, the project includes several hotels, around 12 shopping malls, housing, and recreation areas.[3]

As proposed, Oblisco Capitale will be a residential community consisting of 165 floors, which includes hotel apartments and units of various sizes, international shopping centers, cinemas, restaurants and cafes, and entertainment places.[4]

Geographical location

As for the location of Oblisco Capitale, it is located in the heart of the Administrative Capital, specifically in the Central Business District, which includes about 20 towers dedicated only to business administration in the Administrative Capital and other services. It is also near the axis of Mohammed bin Zayed, embassies district, Regional ring road, Al Masa Hotel, the Central Ring road and many other central areas.

Inspiration

The Egyptian Obelisks

The tower's architecture is inspired from both the Pharaonic and Art Deco styles. More specifically, the proportions of the Oblisco Capitale were emulated from Ancient Egyptian obelisk dimensions.These dimensions embody geometrical perfection and structural stability.

Art Deco

The design contains louvres – inspired by Art Deco – which rotate according to the sun's inclination, reducing heat throughout the day. At the same time, the ratio between solid and void in the louvres’ design still provides transparency which enhances the visual connection between inside and outside.

The Nile River

The Nile River is the second element of inspiration for the building's design; represented in the project via the canal that connects the corners of land in the project.

The Lotus Flower

The pattern visible on the tower's facade is inspired from the lotus flower design used in the Pharaonic era. A flower that has grown in the Nile delta for millennia and is widely known to have played a big part in the Ancient Egyptian civilization.[5][6]
