In the 1920s the Klallam village of Pysht was demolished while the villagers were away working. When they returned, they found that American settlers had removed the village in order to build a lumber mill.[1][2]

In the early twentieth century, Pysht was a port for the timber-cutting industry, with logging, lumbering, and rail facilities set up by the company Merrill & Ring.[3] Merrill & Ring, who first acquired land rights at Pysht in 1886, still owns much of the surrounding land.[4] By the early twenty-first century the town numbered only a few buildings. Activities in the area include forest preservation and hiking, fishing, and crabbing.
