In 2010, she was met with widespread controversy after alleged footage of her with self-proclaimed godman Nithyananda was leaked by Sun TV.[1][5][6][7][8][9][10] Ranjitha has dismissed claims that the footage shows any inappropriate behavior with Nithyananda. Ranjitha also held a press conference to announce [that], "The video is fabricated. I am not the person in it. In fact, at that time, I was in a room that I was sharing with another female devotee in the Dhyanapeetham ashram. I blame myself for this. It has affected my career though some people still have faith in me."
Ranjitha also alleged that “some vested interests, including politicians” were responsible for associating her with the footage and that she “was threatened not to speak about the tapes. Vested interests have been threatening me not to divulge any information.”[11]
On 27 December 2013, she took up sannyasa under Swami Nithyananda.[12] She took the name "Nithyananda Moyi" right now she is serving as a Sri Mahant at Nithyananda Dhyanapeetham.
