Ratris Khel Chale

Ratris Khel Chale (transl.The Games Runs At Night) was a Marathi supernatural thriller drama serial which aired on Zee Marathi from 22 February 2016. It soon became popular amongst its audience. The serial revolves around the Naik family living in a Konkani village, who experience strange and unexplainable events.[1][2]

Plot

In the first season, Anna Naik, head of an influential Konkani family, abruplty dies on the day of his youngest son's engagement. This leads to issues in the household due to the property distribution between the heirs, especially due to Anna's daughter from a second woman, Shewanta. Also, paranormal events start taking place, linked to the Naik family's past.[1]

Anna's right hand Natha and his wife creates paranormal events to scare Naik's and usurp their property. Also Anna's illegitimate daughter Sushma creates problems and haunting events in Naik's house to get her rights after Anna's Death and get back Shewanta's jewellery. All hiers to Anna's property try to get the largest share of the property.

Neelima, Madhav's (Anna's eldest son) wife creates haunting scenes to get Naik property for her commitment to her employer for money. Also Anna's friends Nene, a lawyer and Raghu Kaka, a priest with evil mind and evil deeds try to usurp Anna's property so they too scare the family. Neelima and her employer, Jatin Seth assassinate Nene Vakil as he learns their truth.

Abhiram's friend Vishwasrao, a cop enters the family due to Nene Vakil's murder and unravel all dark secrets of Naik family and associates. He later arrested Neelima and Jatin Seth for their crime.

  • Shakuntala Nare[3] as Indumati "Mai" Naik, Anna's kind hearted widow. Madhav, Chhaya and Abhiram's mother. Datta's adopted mother and Sushma's step mother. Nilima, Sarita and Devika's Mother in law and Archis, Purva and Ganesha's grandmother.
  • Suhas Shirsat [3] as Dattaram Naik, Anna's son from another woman but still raised as Indu's own, the most responsible person after Anna. Sarita's husband, Purva and Ganesha's father Bhiwri's biological son.
  • Mangesh Salvi [3] as Madhav Naik, Anna's eldest son who moves to live in Mumbai. Neelima's husband and Archis's father. He writes poetry and Novel which often come true with Naik family.
  • Ashwini Mukadam [3] as Sarita Naik, the only second generation mistress in the house to take care of it. Datta's wife, Purva and Ganesha's mother.
  • Prachi Sukhathankar [3] as Neelima Naik, Madhav's spouse who is highly scientific and disregards any superstitions of the native village people. Madhav's wife and Archis's mother. She assassinated Nene Vakil for Naik's Property.
  • Madhav Abhyankar[3] as Hari "Anna" Naik, the influential person in the village. Indumati and Shewanta's husband. Madhav, Datta, Chhaya, Abhiram, Sushama's father.(dead)
  • Sainkeet Kamat[3] as Abhiram Naik, Anna's youngest son whose engagement was planned but Anna died on the same day, postponing it. Devika's lover and husband.
  • Rutuja Dharmadhikari[3] as Sushma, Shevanta's daughter who wants to take away all the Naik family's property as a desire of her late mother after Anna's death. She was disowned by Indumati after Shewanta's death but Natha and Yamuna adopt her to get Naik's property.'
  • Namrata Pavaskar[3] as Chhaya Naik, Anna's only daughter, whose husband died on the night of their wedding, leaving her widowed and to live in her parents' home. Madhav and Abhiram's sister. Datta, Pandu and Sushma's adoptive and step sister.
  • Dilip Bapat[3] as Lawyer Nene, who always saved Anna after he had committed any crime and helped him acquire properties, while secretly taking some parts of it. After Anna's death, Nene looks after the property distribution between Anna's heirs.
  • Anil Gawde[3] as Gurav Raghu, who is the Gurav of the village, who is often called by the Naik's whenever any paranormal event occurs. He also wants Naik's property. He always practice Black Magic in the name of holy commotion.
  • Pralhad Kudtarkar[3] as Pandu, a man cared by the Naiks who forgets almost everything he hears or sees, since he witnessed his father's death by Anna. Indumati and Anna's adoptive son. He knows many secrets of Naik family from the past and the present. He is not taken seriously by anyone.

Production

Due to its immense success of Ratris Khel Chale Season 1 on Zee Marathi, it was remade in Kannada and telecasted on Zee Kannada as well. Later in late 2018, Zee Marathi and the production house confirmed the production of Ratris Khel Chale 2 and the show was loved too. Ratris Khel Chale Season 1 was dubbed into Hindi and telecasted on & TV from 29 February 2020 on weekend slot of 8 p.m. of 1 hour episode which also got positive response amongst audience[4][5] and Season 2 from 12 December 2020.

The production and filming of series took place in Akeri, Maharashtra in Konkan Region.[6] The Season 1 of the show was supposed to be horror, but was later shifted to Thriller Crime as people from Konkan region accused the promotion of series to have bad effect on the region and even a court case was filed.

Controversy

The Konkan team had objected to the series saying that the series was promoting superstition and showing the Konkan a scary place.[7][8]
