Ringtail Creek, Queensland

Ringtail Creek is a locality in the northern Sunshine Coast hinterland about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northwest of Noosa Heads in Queensland, Australia.[2] It is within the local government area of Shire of Noosa (between 2008 and 2013 it was within Sunshine Coast Region). At the 2011 Australian Census Ringtail Creek recorded a population of 180.[1]

Geography

The north-eastern boundary follows the Noosa River where it leaves Lake Cootharaba. A small section in the west belongs to the Mary River catchment area. A large portion of the locality is protected within the Ringtail Forest Reserve.

The town of Cooloothin is at 26.3132°S 152.9735°E / -26.3132; 152.9735 (Cooloothin).[3][4]

History

By 1875, a sugarcane plantation had been established at Cooloothin Creek by 1875.[5]

In July 1880, the Queensland Government sold off 61 town allotments in Cooloothin.[6] A few houses remain on the northern edge of the town but the southern part of the town is now Tewah Park.[7]

At the 2011 census Ringtail Creek had a population of 180 people.[1]
