Robert M. Brutinel

Robert M. Brutinel (born March 18, 1958) is the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court. He was appointed to the court in 2010 by Governor Jan Brewer, through Arizona's merit selection system. He was retained for a six-year term in 2014. He won Arizona's 2018 General Election bid for Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court as a non-partisan candidate, effective July 1, 2019.[1] He replaced Justice Scott Bales as Chief Justice.[2]

Professional career

Brutinel is a graduate of the University of Arizona school of law.[3] After graduating law school Brutinel worked in private practice before being appointed a superior court judge in Yavapai County in 1996. He served as the presiding judge from 2004 until his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2010.[4] Brutinel was retained in an election in 2014[5]

Judge Robert Brutinel says people must obtain written permission from him before using a camera outside the courthouse.[6]
