Robert W. Marshall

Robert William Marshall, Jr. (born June 17, 1959) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who serves as bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria, Louisiana.

Biography

Marshall was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated from Christian Brothers High School and Christian Brothers University there, graduating with a bachelor's degree in history in 1980. In 1983 he earned a law degree at the University of Memphis.[1] He then practiced law for twelve years in St. Louis, Missouri, and Memphis. He entered Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans in 1995 and completed his Master of Divinity degree in 2000. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Memphis on June 10, 2000, by Bishop Terry Steib.[2] As a priest of the Diocese of Memphis, he served as Associate Pastor of the Church of the Incarnation, Collierville (2000-2002) and as Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Humboldt and St. Matthew Church, Milan (2002-2004), Church of the Ascension, Memphis (2004-2012), St. Francis of Assisi Church, Memphis (2012-2017) and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Memphis (2017-2020). He also served on the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. Marshall was the delegate of Archbishop Joseph Kurtz who was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Memphis from October 2018-April 2019. Marshall was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Memphis in April 2019 by the Most Reverend David P. Talley, Sixth Bishop of Memphis.

Bishop of Alexandria

Pope Francis appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria, Louisiana, on April 21, 2020.[3][4] He was consecrated and installed on August 20, 2020, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Alexandria.
