Early in his career he played association football before switching to rugby and then athletics at the age of 16.[3] In his 2019 100m season opener Rohan became the 3rd fastest Australian of all time running 10.08 and Qualified for the 2019 World Athletics Championships to be held in Doha.
On 16 January 2021, Browning ran the 100 metres in a wind-assisted time of 9.96 seconds with the tailwind being +3.3m/s.[4] This made Browning the second Australian sprinter ever to break the 10-second barrier after Patrick Johnson, who first broke the barrier back in 1993 with a time of 9.93 seconds.[4]
After Browning ran this time, his mother Liz Jackson congratulated him on Twitter, saying "I think my eldest son just became the first non Indigenous Australian to run 100m in under 10 secs. Can’t quite believe it."[4] This tweet caused controversy due to some people on Twitter who perceived the tweet as Jackson being "racist" and said that she should not have highlighted that Browning is non-Indigenous.[4] Jackson responded to these accusations, claiming that her tweet was not meant to be racist and that it "was an acknowledgement of just how good our indigenous athletes are."[4]
At college, Rohan was commonly referred to by the nickname "Roy" [sic].
