Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zagreb
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zagreb (Croatian: Zagrebačka nadbiskupija, Latin: Archidioecesis Zagrebiensis) is the central archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Croatia, centered in the capital city Zagreb.[2] It is the metropolitan see of Croatia, and the present archbishop is Josip Bozanić.[3] It encompasses the northwestern continental areas of Croatia.

The diocese of Zagreb was founded by Saint Ladislaus I of Hungary in 1094.[1] On November 11, 1852, it was elevated to the status of an archdiocese.

Zagrebačka nadbiskupija, katolička nadbiskupija u sjeverozapadnoj Hrvatskoj sa sjedištem u Zagrebu. Na tom je području u ranokršćansko doba postojala → Sisačka biskupija, a biskupiju u Zagrebu osnovao je 1094. ugarski kralj Ladislav i potpadala je pod Ostrogonsku metropoliju sve do 1180., kada je pripala Kaločkoj metropoliji. Budući da kralj Ladislav nije bio u dobrim odnosima s papom Urbanom II., koji je podupirao kralja Zvonimira, odobrenje za osnutak biskupije dobio je od protupape Klementa III. Premda biskupija ni poslije nije dobila službeno papino priznanje, bila je priznata via facti. Tek je papa Grgur IX. potvrdio 1227. darovnice i povlastice Zagrebačke biskupije, među kojima je najvažnija → Felicijanova povelja iz 1134.
