Miss Belgium 2017

Schotte, at the time a 19-year-old Business Management student, was crowned "Miss Belgium 2017" by Lenty Frans (Miss Belgium 2016) on 14 January 2017.[1]

Controversy

Within days of winning the title, Schotte was the subject of media controversy sparked by what was taken to be her approving response to a racist comment on a selfie she had posted to Instagram on which a black man was visible in the background.[2][3] It was denied that this was the reason she was not going to be representing Belgium at the Miss Universe pageant.[4] In May 2017 the man in question instituted legal proceedings for damages.[5] When the case came to court in June 2018 Schotte was cleared of wrongdoing.[6]

Personal life

In June 2019 Schotte married Stefan Talpe.[7]
