Run Sweetheart Run is a 2020 American horror film written and directed by Shana Feste. It stars Ella Balinska, Pilou Asbæk, Clark Gregg, Aml Ameen, Dayo Okeniyi, Betsy Brandt and Shohreh Aghdashloo. Jason Blum, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Feste are serving as producers under their Blumhouse Productions, Automatik and Quiet Girl Productions banners respectively.

Synopsis

Timid and hard-working single mother Cherie (Ella Balinska) brushes away hesitations and decides to dip her toe back into the dating scene after being spurred on by her co-workers. She's thrilled when her boss sets her up on a blind date with Ethan (Pilou Asbæk), who initially proves every bit as charming and magnetic as his photo. Ethan can't hide his true nature for very long though — and when things quickly turn sinister, Cherie must find a way to escape. Forced to navigate the streets of L.A. after hours on foot, Cherie learns Ethan is far more connected and violent than she ever imagined.

Production

In June 2018, it was announced Shana Feste would direct the film, from a screenplay she wrote. Jason Blum, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Feste will serve as producers on the film, under their Blumhouse Productions, Automatik and Quiet Girl Productions banners, respectively.[3] In February 2019, Ella Balinska, Pilou Asbaek, Clark Gregg, Aml Ameen, Dayo Okeniyi, Betsy Brandt and Shohreh Aghdashloo joined the cast of the film.[4] Feste based the film on her real-life experiences of being a victim of a traumatizing date and sexual assault.[5]

Filming

Principal photography began in Los Angeles in February 2019.[6][7]

Release

It had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, 2020.[8] It was also scheduled to screen at South by Southwest on March 13, 2020, but the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[9][10][11] It was scheduled to be released theatrically by Blumhouse Tilt and OTL Releasing on May 8, 2020,[12] but it was pulled from the schedule due to movie theater closures because of the pandemic restrictions.[13] In May 2020, Amazon Studios acquired distribution rights to the film, and will release it digitally on Prime Video.[14]
