Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Durrani

Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Durrani (Pashto: شہزادہ رحمت اللہ خان درانی) was a Pakistan Movement activist born on 10 October 1919 in the Sadozai dynasty of Durrani, the ethnic Pashtun Sadozai tribe, section of the Popalzai sub clan of Durrani Abdali Pashtun tribe in British India, Quetta.[1][2]

Early life

Shahzada Rehamatullah Khan Sadozai was approximately one year old when his father Shahzada Habibullah Khan Sadozai died then his grand father Shahzada Mohammad Abdul Rahim Durrani and his uncle Sardar Abdul Majeed Khan Durrani became the guardians of Shahzada Rehamatullah Khan Sadozai . some years later as first formal educated male of family he soon assumed the control of his father's business “Khan Brothers” Reg firm since 1900. His good friends was Khan Abdul Ghafoor Khan Durrani the Popalzai Durranies Chief in Balochistan & Qazi Muhammad Essa a well known leader of All-India Muslim League in Balochistan were backbone in the Pakistan Independent Movement aside by Founder of Pakistan from Balochistan Province. He made a strong career by serving as a social welfare volunteer, politician and one of the great Pashtun tribal sadozai chief. He was sponsor of an Adventurers Association and football club in Quetta. His father-in-law Khan Mohammad Sadeeq Khan Ghalzai was from Loralai and Peer Zainudin Algillani, Meer Ghulam Nabi Marri (Shaheed), Haji Mohammad Hashim Khan Ghalzai, Haji Mirza Khan Peichi of Loralai were his reliable friends.

Family

In the period of bloodshed held after the assassination of Amir Fateh Khan Barakzai between the two sub tribes of Durranies i.e Barakzai and the Sadozai tribes lead by Amir Fateh Khan Barakzai and Shahzada Kamaran Sadozai subsequently in Afghanistan, Some members of the royal Sadozai families changed their names and perceived cast and prudently migrated from Afghanistan to British NFWP while two members of Shahzada Kamaran Sadozai family went to Turkmenistan, however son of Shahzada Kamran Durrani, Shahzada Bismillah Khan Durrani, migrated to British Baluchistan with his son Sardar Rasheed Khan Durrani and grandson Sardar Nidda Durrani along with family and personal guards and servants in to a small fort of an elder of the Kakar tribe in a killi adjacent to Kuchlak near Quetta in British Balochistan Here after they moved to Killi Gogi Ahmandoon near Ghoski Ziarat, where Shahzada Nidda Durrani got married in a notable family of the native Kakar tribe and assumed a peaceful life. His grandfather Shahzada Bismillah Khan Durrani was buried in Killi Ahmandoon. In December 1879 at the express invitation of Amir Mohammad Ayub Khan Mohammadzai and then Sardar Rasheed Khan Durrani (1832–1880) and his son Sardar Nidda Durrani (Aalijah)(1855–1926) went to Afghanistan as part of Amir policy to unify the tribes through chiefs for Sovereignty as well as to bring peace, harmony and stability in Afghanistan. July 1880 in the days of Second Anglo-Afghan War against the British Empire in the Battle of Maiwand Shahzada Rasheed Khan Durrani embraced (Shahadat) martyred and victory comes to the Afghans in the battle of Maiwand.

Else here Shahzada Aalijah Nidda Durrani returned back to his family in Killi Ahmandoon Ghoski Ziarat British Balochistan British India with a British made gun was seized after killing a British soldier in the battle of Maiwand this gun is now in the custody of Mohammad Abubakar Durrani grandson of Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Sadozai. In 1907 Shahzada Aalijah Nidda Durrani including his son, Mohammad Abdul Rahim Durrani and grandsons Sardar Abdul Habib Durrani and Sardar Abdul Majeed Durrani and all family members went from Killi Ahmandoon Ziarat to the small village of Killi Katheer near Kuchlak. In 1920 Shahzada Abdul Habib Khan Durrani and 1926 Shahzada Aalijah Nidda Durrani died here and remaining members of the royal Sadozai Durranies family headed by Shahzada Mohammad Abdul Rahim Durrani went to British Quetta for permanent settlement meanwhile Abdul Majeed Durrani went to Kolkata India for business while Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Sadozai remained with grandfather cum guardian Shahzada Mohammad Abdul Rahim Durrani, Hereafter Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Sadozai assumed the control of his father's business “Khan Brothers” Reg firm since 1900 was left for him under supervision of his grandfather, Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Sadozai Durrani (1919–1992) was first formal educated male of his family he was father of Sardar Ahmad Khan Sadozai Settled in Denmark, (Chairman) Sadozai Qomi Welfare Organization Balochistan, Noorullah Khan Durrani (late) Mr. Runner-up Pakistan in all Pakistan Body Building contest 1967 was settled in Harran Norway, Amanullah Khan Durrani (Retd) 2nd Engineer in Greek Ship. Nasrullah Khan Durrani (Retd) Health officer, Niamatullah Khan Durrani (Retd) Customs Officer and famous mountaineer and Caving legend of Pakistan Hayatullah Khan Durrani and his eighth and last son is Habibullah Khan Sadozai Pakistans best Rock-climber settled in United Kingdom, further Pakistan's Junior / senior Canoe and Kayak Champion; Mohammad Abubakar Durrani Muhammad Umar Durrani.,[3][4]

are grandsons of Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Sadozai Durrani. However Engineer Nasibullah Sadozai, Samiullah Durrani, Kalimullah Durrani, Bismilla Durrani, Inamullah Durrani and Naqeebullah Durrani are also his grandsons.

Political career

Rehmatullah Khan Durrani was an activist with the Muslim Students Federation Balochistan. Khan Abdul Ghafoor Khan Durrani, leader of the Muslim League, introduced him with the Quaid-e-Azam. He performed major role in the Pakistan independence movement aside with Qazi Muhammad Essa and Khan Abdul Ghafoor Khan Durrani head of All-India Muslim League in Balochistan especially in Quetta as a loyalist Muslim league friend of Mohammad Ali Jinnah Quaid-e-Azam (Urdu: قائد اعظم) ("Father of the Nation"), the founder of Pakistan. 15 June 1948 Shahzada Rehmatullah Khan Sadozai had a meeting with Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Fathima Jinnah on the eve of presentation of civic address in Town Hall Quetta and discussed various matter.[5]

As volunteer

Durrani helped the victims of the 1935 Quetta earthquake and was the chief of the Sadozai tribe in Balochistan. He founded the Sadozai Qaumi Welfare Organization. He died from cancer on 29 November 1992 at the age of 73.[6]
