The race's longtime sponsor Diamond Hill Plywood is based in Darlington, and is owned and operated by identical twins John and Jim Ramsey.[1] Their grandfather Sherman Ramsey, who founded Diamond Hill Plywood, sold the land Darlington Raceway was built on to Harold Brasington, and is said to have requested one end (currently Turn 4) of Brasington's new track be built narrower to protect a minnow pond on his property.[2] Synthetic oil manufacturer Royal Purple signed a multi-year deal to be the primary sponsor of the race beginning in 2010. The 2015 running was held during the day, with the race starting at 3:30 PM Eastern Time.

  • 2002: Jeff Burton led all 147 laps from the pole to win.
  • 2003: Race postponed from Saturday to Monday due to rain.
  • 2008, 2009, 2012, & 2017: Race extended due to an overtime finish.
  • 2019: Denny Hamlin had originally won the race, but his car failed post-race tech. With NASCAR's new tech policy that if the winning vehicle fails, the vehicle will be disqualified and whomever finished 2nd or is the highest finishing driver whose vehicle passes moves up. Cole Custer originally finished 2nd in the race, but due to Hamlin's car failing, and Custer passing post-race tech, he wound up winning the race despite the fact he never led a lap the whole race. Hamlin was stripped of the win, and wound up finishing last. This was the second time since the rule was put into effect this year that the outcome of a sanctioned-event was determined by the policy.
