Population
In 2014 there were 379 residents according to local administration.[3] In 2018 there was only one child who begun attending the local school.[4]
Many of local residents were relocated to the village fleeing from Kushchi village of Dashkesan,[5] as well as Baku and Ganja districts of Azerbaijan around 1988–1989.[6] Quite a few of the houses are used only in summer by Yerevan residents.
Nature
Village is located in the vicinity of delta of Tandzut river (not to be confused with identically named Tandzut river in Lori province).[6] Other sources indicate different river names: river Tsapatagh running through the village and river Shishkert (or river Shampyrt) on south-east from the village.[7]
In the surroundings of the village there is a 3312 hectare large sanctuary with unique relict juniper and oak open woodlands with typical fauna and flora.[8][9]
Climate is somewhat milder than on western shores and fruit trees like apricots can be grown.
Historical sites
There is an about 3000 years old burial area 3 km east of the village.[6]
In the south-east, about 1.5 km away there is a 14-18 century cemetery with khachkar tombstones.[6]
Commerce
A hotel ("Tufenkian") with adjacent solar photovoltanic instalaltions is located in the village. On south-east another, much larger photovoltanic station is being constructed as of 2020.
