Tuva in the Turkvision Song Contest

Tuva (Russian: Тува́) or Tyva (Tuvan: Тыва), officially the Tyva Republic (Russian: Респу́блика Тыва́, tr. Respublika Tyva, IPA: [rʲɪˈspublʲɪkə tɨˈva]; Tuvan: Тыва Республика, Tyva Respublika, [tʰɯˈʋa resˈpʰuplika]), is a federal subject of Russia (a republic, also defined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation as a state).[1] Tuva has competed in the Turkvision Song Contest twice.[2] The contest is an annual song contest created by Turkish music channel TMB TV. It was inspired by the format of the Eurovision Song Contest and the first edition took place in Eskişehir, Turkey. The semi-final was held on 19 December 2013, with the grand final taking place on 21 December 2013.[3] Participants representing Tuva entered the semi-finals in the 2013 and 2014 iterations of the contest, but no participants from Tuva entered in 2015. They will be returning to the contest in 2020.

History

Tuva made their debut in the Turkvision Song Contest at the 2013 contest in Eskişehir, Turkey.[2] Saylık Ommun was due to participate for Russia, but instead represented Tuva after the final list of entries was revealed.[4]

Tuva had internally selected Ayas Kullar to represent them at the 2014 contest.[5] However, upon publication of the running order draw on 17 November 2014, Tuva along with Northern Cyprus were withdrawn from participation.[6] The Tuvan delegation arrived for the contest 1 day before the semi-final and were drawn to perform 25th.[7] They placed 20th with 151 points.
