Tynomi Banks

Sheldon McIntosh,[1] known professionally as Tynomi Banks, is a Canadian drag performer who competed on the television series Canada's Drag Race.

McIntosh attended Durham College, studying public relations.[2][3]

Career

In 2014, as part of World Pride, Tynomi Banks became the first drag artist to perform in Toronto's Yonge–Dundas Square. In 2018, during Pride Toronto, she was selected to participate in a marketing campaign for Crest and curated Spotify's playlist for the gay pride event.[4] She also appeared in IKEA's pride campaign in 2018, as well as Netflix's web series Queens of Netflix. She served as a trophy bearer during the 7th Canadian Screen Awards in 2019.[5] She is a spokesperson for the Spanish jewelry company Carrera y Carrera, as of 2020.[4]

Television

In 2019, Tynomi Banks appeared in the second season of the documentary series Canada's a Drag.[4] She competed on the first season of the reality competition television series Canada's Drag Race, based on the American series RuPaul's Drag Race. One of the more popular contestants entering the competition,[6][7] she was eliminated during the fourth episode after placing in the bottom two three weeks in a row.[8]

Personal life

McIntosh is Black Canadian and queer,[1] and lives in Toronto, as of 2020.[6][9] His drag artistry is inspired by Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Grace Jones, and he is known for impersonating Beyoncé and Whitney Houston.[4]
