History

The airline was established to replace the defunct Guyana Airways in 2001 and started operations on 13 December 2001 with a Boeing 767-300ER leased from LOT Polish Airlines non-stop from New York City to Georgetown. It subsequently leased an Airbus A320 aircraft from TACA, but this was repossessed in 2005 and Universal Airlines was forced to suspend operations. BWIA West Indies Airways assisted stranded passengers during that time.

Fleet

The Universal Airlines fleet consisted of 1 Airbus A320-200 aircraft (at September 2005). Previously, Universal Airlines had leased a Boeing 767-300ER from LOT Polish Airlines.
