History
Founding
Västerviks IK was founded in April 1971, when VAIS (Västerviks Allmänna Idrottssällskap), (English: The public sport company of Vastervik) decided to close down it’s hockey section and only invest in football.
Season 1996/97
The club almost reached Sweden's highest league, SHL, when they knocked out Sunne IK in playoff 1, and Huddinge IK in playoff 2. But in playoff 3, Linköping HC became too difficult and took the place in SHL.
Season 2016/17
In the spring of 2016, Vasterviks IK qualified for the HockeyAllsvenskan after some good seasons in Division 1. On September 15, 2016, Vastervik played the first HockeyAllsvenskan match at Hovet against AIK. It was the start of a season that ended in success. A third place in the regular season and a second place in the playoff who meant that Vastervik was knocked out. AIK went forward on goal difference.
