V. Z. Durai (born Peer Moideen) is an Indian film director who has worked in the Tamil film industry.[1]

Film career

2000-2008

Before Joing the Film Industry, Durai worked as a Managing Director in his brother in law's construction company for various Biggie Projects like Taj Hotels constructions in Foreign Countries. Durai revealed that he had approached S. S. Chakravarthy to make the film Mugavaree (2000) with Ajith Kumar . Durai had no prior experience in films as an assistant, with Chakravarthy being supportive and maintaining a close link with the film from shoot until post-production, while also playing a part in roping in Jyothika for the film.The film turned out to be a blockbuster.[2][3] Prior to the release of the film, Ajith, who has happy with the final product, gifted a car to the director.The Film being his Debut Film completed 100days of run.[4] The success of the film led to the producer and the director signing another film together, with dual actors, R.Madhavan and Vikram but later scraping and dropping the film, Hence the same Production House offered him Kadhal Sadugudu, featuring Vikram and Priyanka Trivedi. In 2005, he directed the gangster film Thotti Jaya, starring Silambarasan and Gopika, the film focused on an action angle of silambarasan, whose sequel is much anticipated.This Film was Completed 100 Days run for the 2nd time in Durai's Career and over the years became a cult classic, Durai's fourth film was Nepali, which starred Bharath and Meera Jasmine.The Film turned out to be very different and his work and Bharath dedication was much appreciated but the film did not gross well.

2013-2018

He took a five-year hiatus and was held up with advertisements, then he directed 6, which cast Shaam and Poonam Kaur.The film got several laurels from other stars like Bala(Director) Who honoured him by presenting a chain, being astonished by his making of the film, Kannada star Sudeep Sanjeev Praised both Shaam and Durai for their excellent work .Reportedly Shaam was sleepless for days for the different roles in the film.[5] He again took a five-year hiatus before directing Yemaali in 2018. Idea of narration is truly different but the director fails to get the urban flavor right and all his actors are disappointing.[6]

2018-present

He then directed the horror-thriller movie Iruttu with Sundar C. on lead role and the film released on 6 December 2019. The film is a hit horror thriller for the unexplored element and the investigative angle.The film was a break for Sundar C. and collected a whooping 20 crores.,[7] He is now directing Narkali with the Ace Director Ameer.

He had founded an company known as Addlime, in the name of which he did several International Advertisements, in Dubai, Ukraine, Thailand and London. In London, he associated with Medican Medical Cannabis and did various corporate Films

He has been found to have been associated to a construction company, as a managing director, run by his brother in law, reportedly doing the construction works for the biggie Taj Hotels in Mauritius and several other international government projects.
