History

The Station signed on in 1974 as WPCT at 94.3 FM & Played a country music Format, which was licensed at the time to Jackson, Tennessee.

The Station would obtain the Country Music Format from its sign on in 1974 until November 28, 2003, when it was sold to Grace Broadcasting & flipped to a Christian Music Format. In between times, the Station would change its callsign to WIST in 1983 & WFGZ in 1994, before becoming WHPY-FM in 2012.

It was announced on December 13, 2011, that Grace Broadcasting would sell the Station to Kensington Digital Media.[2] The Sale was finalized on January 3, 2012, as the Station would also relocate from broadcasting in Jackson, Tennessee to Nashville, Tennessee & would be licensed to Bellevue, Tennessee.[3] The station also changed formats to Classic Hits branded as "Hippy Radio 94.5", but broadcasts largely a rock oldies format, with emphasis on music which received airplay on Top 40/CHR stations in the 1960s 1980s.
