Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: WERN) was founded in 1956 by Clarence (CL) Werner[1] and is a transportation and logistics company, with coverage throughout North America, Asia, Europe, South America, Africa and Australia. Werner maintains its global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, offices in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China, along with 15 terminals nationwide.[3]

History

In 1956, CL Werner sold his family vehicle for a Ford-gasoline powered truck, and began hauling cargo for other companies.[3] In 1964, CL moved his company out of his home into a shop in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1977, Werner Enterprises moved to its current location in Omaha, Nebraska, becoming the company's global headquarters. By 1999, Werner had expanded its operations into Mexico, reaching one billion dollars in revenue. Today, Werner is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States.[4]

Services

Werner's fleet consists of more than 8,000 tractors, 24,000 trailers and approximately 13,000 associates and independent contractors worldwide.[1] The main commodities of freight transported are retail store merchandise, consumer, manufactured and grocery products.
