William J. Slocum
William J. Slocum (1884 – May 6, 1943) was an American sports writer who spent more than twenty years covering baseball in New York newspapers.[1]

Slocum started his sports writing career in 1917. Among other things he was a ghostwriter for Babe Ruth.[2] He was one of the organizers of the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.[1] The BBWAA Chapter honored Slocum in 1930 by naming an award after him, which is presented annually to a person judged to have given long and meritorious service to baseball,[2] and he was named to the Honor Rolls of Baseball by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.
