Winki Lai

Winki Lai Wai-ling was born in Hong Kong, there is an older brother who lived in Heng On Estate, Ma On Shan, New Territories,[3] and studied at ELCHK Ma On Shan Lutheran Primary School and Chinese YMCA College. She joined the drama club in middle school. Although she was admitted to the acting department of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in Form 5, she gave up the opportunity to advance to university.[3] It was not until two years later that one of her college entrance examination scores failed and she could not enter her desired degree, she officially enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in the Performing Department of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.[3][4] She won the Hong Kong Bank Foundation Hong Kong-Mainland Exchange Scholarship and the Lai Cho-tin Memorial Scholarship during her schooling.[5][6]

After graduating in 2011, Lai Wai-ling became a stage actor and radio host.[7] In 2013, she was recommended by her teacher Lo Koon-lan from The Academy of Performing Arts to participate in the audition for the TVB series Never Dance Alone and set foot in the entertainment industry.[3][4] During the audition, she played the seven characters alone, and was finally selected for the role of Young Hui Chun Nei in the show. During the filming of the play, producer Eric Tsang asked her to help Rachel Lee, who had been unable to enter the play after she had quit the entertainment industry for many years, to analyze the script.[8] She also became good friends with fellow actresses Jeannie Chan, Anjaylia Chan, Cheronna Ng, Kandy Wong, Venus Wong and Annice Ng.[9] After the show was broadcast, her acting skills began to impress the audience.[10]

In 2014, when Lai Wai-ling participated in Lord Of Shanghai, well-known actor Anthony Wong highly praised her, leading her to be named Little Ling (Little Carol Cheng).[11][12] In 2016, she played the role of Yau Ling-mui in the drama Blue Veins, where superb acting skills once again attracted attention. Most netizens said that her acting skills were high class and her roles were all successfully portrayed in both dramas and live performances.[13][14] In 2017, she served as the second female lead for the first time in drama Destination Nowhere, collaborating with Kevin Cheng for the second time. As a stage actor, she has performed in a number of troupe works and served as the master of ceremonies for the "23rd Hong Kong Drama Awards". In addition, she has hosted Taoist TV programs broadcast by Now TV, such as Dao Tong Tian Di,[15] Road Express, Life Sweet Silk and Healthy Cooking.[16][17]

In 2020, Lai Wai-ling was highly praised for her performance and couple collaboration with Owen Cheung, in Al Cappuccino, which earned her nominations for both Best Supporting Actress and Most Popular Female Character at the TVB Anniversary Awards 2020.

On July 27, 2018, Lai Wai-ling switched from the TVB basic artist contract to the manager contract.

In July 2017, Lai Wing-ling announced her pregnancy via Instagram. In August 2017, she married her stage actor boyfriend of 5 years, Benny Leung. On 3 December 2017, she gave birth to her son, Marat.
