Xu Yiyang

Xu Yiyang (Chinese: 徐艺洋; Korean: 쉬이양; born September 12, 1997), is a Chinese singer and actress. She is best known for reaching the finals of The Next Top Bang, where she debuted as a member of LEGAL HIGH. She then finished 8th in Produce Camp 2020 and was unable to make into the final lineup of the debuting group.

Early life

Xu Yiyang was born on September 12, 1997 in Nanchong, Sichuan, China. She graduated from No.10 Middle School of Nanchong.

Career

Pre-debut

In 2014, Xu signed with SM Entertainment as a trainee. She was introduced as part of SM Rookies alongside æspa's Ningning on September 19, 2016.[1] As part of the pre-debut team, she appeared on the Rookies Princess: Who's the Best? segment of the program My SMT in 2016 as well as having recorded several cover songs for the Korean animated TV program Shining Star in 2017.[2] On September 19, 2018, she posted on her Weibo account about her departure.

2018–2020: Career beginnings, Produce Camp 2020 and rise in popularity

Xu signed with Huang Zitao's label, L.TAO Entertainment on October 10, 2018. On October 21, 2018, she participated in Dragon TV reality-survival girl group show, The Next Top Bang.[3] Along with 5 other members, Xu, debuted as a member of LEGAL HIGH in January 2019 with the single "嗨".[4][5] They released their second single "心星" in February. They also won the "Best New Artist" at the 26th Chinese Top Ten Music Awards in March.[6]

On May 2, 2020, Xu participated in Tencent's reality-survival program Produce Camp 2020. She eventually finished 8th, narrowly missing out on the debut seat.[7][8]

She made her solo debut with the single "Listen" on July 16, 2020 written, composed and produced by Huang Zitao.[9] Her single "OMG" was released on September 29, 2020.[10] She made her acting debut, plaing the role as Xu Jing in Airbenders. She was part of the cast of the basketball reality show, Dunk of China 3.[11]

Xu won the Best New Artist of the Year award at the 17th Man At His Best Award on December 10, 2020.[12][13]

2021-present: First EP Gravity

Xu released her first ever EP, Gravity, on January 8, 2021 with three songs. The music video for the title track "Gravity" was released on the same day.[14]
